"One of the ways in which we carry out
the age-old human temptation of pride and to "become like God" is to
appoint ourselves judges of others. We even judge how things exist, how things
should be done and how they ought to be.
Yet
our judgments are inevitably flawed by our own "poverty," brokenness
and selfishness. It is better to leave all judging to God Luke tells us in
6:37.
In
our human frailty, it is not up to us to judge the homeless, the addict, the
loser, cousin Joe, aunt Sue, gays, a co-worker, adulterer or anyone else we
think is a loser.
In
fact, God gives us an alternative to the pride of judgement. Offer mercy,
charity and kindness to all. 'Blessed are the merciful, they shall obtain
mercy.'" Bro. Gary Joseph +
