Paul wrote, ""My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Cor. 12:9 Paul also wrote, "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong." 1 Cor. 1:27
Saint Therese of the Little Flower,
she interestingly calls the path of weakness, of being small and broken as
"God's little way!" St. Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross express
the heavenly qualities of weakness, humility and brokenness similarly in their
writings.
The long 2,000 years tradition of Catholic saints illuminates the way, however it can be a very different road from Protestant thinking much of the time because the saints and their writings are taken seriously and regarded as having been divinely inspired. Thus the "prosperity" Gospel found in some Protestant preaching is not completely congruent with the teachings of the Apostles and subsequently the Catholic saints and their writings.
